Volunteering
We rely on volunteers to maintain the site so that it is safe and pleasant for everyone to enjoy. If you fancy some fresh air, good company and not too strenuous work, you might like to join us.
We gather at the main entrance (the gates on Pant Lane) on the second Saturday in the month at 10.00 am, come sun, come rain! We finish with a drink and cake somewhere between 12 and 12.30pm, depending on how busy we’ve been. Even if you can’t stay for a full session, you are welcome, and we appreciate any time you can give. We post reminders each month on Facebook, and in the unlikely event of any changes (which would only be if the weather made it unsafe to be in the woods) we’d post updates on our Facebook page.
Examples of the tasks that volunteers undertake :
Routine maintenance - steps, footpaths, play area etc
Keep footpaths clear by strimming and cutting back overgrowth
Clear, trim and tidy overgrown areas
Tidy and remove storm damage
Help with planting
Monitor and record species
‘Litter pick’
Work is suitable for all ages and abilities,
and no-one is ever asked to do work that they feel they can't manage.
Any young people under the age of 18 need to be accompanied by an adult.

In November 2024 we were delighted that a group of our young volunteers were recognised with a national award. The 6 lads began working with us as part of their Duke of Edinburgh award and three years down the line they have continued to come to sessions long after their DofE was over! Their commitment and reliability and their willingness to ‘get stuck in’ and involved in all sorts of different activities really impressed us, and so we nominated them in the Young Volunteer category in the ‘Green Flag Award Best of the Best’.
We were delighted that the judges agreed that they are truly exceptional!
