Organised Visits to Maes y Pant

We welcome visits from schools, colleges, youth organisations, community groups, wellbeing groups and other organised visitors.

Maes y Pant provides opportunities for learning, recreation, environmental education and community engagement within a natural woodland setting.

Group leaders should read both the Code of Use and Site Safety information before visiting.

Planning Your Visit

Before visiting, group leaders should:

• Consider the age, abilities and needs of participants.
• Ensure suitable supervision arrangements are in place.
• Check weather forecasts and site conditions.
• Ensure participants have appropriate clothing and footwear.
• Bring any necessary medication, emergency contact details and first aid equipment.
• Familiarise themselves with the site and planned activities.
  
  
  

Risk Assessments

Visiting organisations are responsible for carrying out their own risk assessment before visiting Maes y Pant.

While Maes y Pant Action Group undertakes routine inspections and maintenance, responsibility for assessing the suitability of the site and planned activities rests with the visiting organisation.

Risk assessments should consider:

• Information contained within the Site Safety page.
• Planned activities and locations.
• Participant age, experience and ability.
• Weather conditions.
• Medical, behavioural or accessibility considerations.
• Supervision requirements.

Risk assessments should be reviewed immediately before and during the visit if circumstances change.

Supervision

The visiting organisation is responsible for determining appropriate supervision levels.

Group leaders should ensure participants:

• Understand site rules and expected behaviour.
• Remain within agreed areas.
• Know what to do if separated from the group.
• Respect wildlife, habitats and other visitors.
  
  

Children and vulnerable adults must remain under appropriate supervision at all times.

Accessibility and Additional Needs

Group leaders should assess whether planned routes and activities are suitable for the needs of their participants.

As a natural woodland site, accessibility may vary depending on weather conditions and location within the site.

Advance visits may be helpful when planning activities involving participants with additional mobility or support needs.

Emergency Planning

Group leaders should ensure they have:

• A means of contacting emergency services.
• Emergency contact information for participants.
• Details of any relevant medical conditions.
• Appropriate first aid provision.
