Our Commitment to Safety

Maes y Pant Action Group is committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for visitors, volunteers and organised groups.

Maes y Pant is a natural woodland and former quarry environment. While regular inspections and maintenance are carried out, natural hazards cannot be completely eliminated. Visitors are responsible for taking reasonable care for their own safety and the safety of those in their care.

All visitors use the site at their own risk.

Natural Hazards

As a natural outdoor environment, visitors should be aware of hazards that may include:

  • Uneven paths and surfaces.
  • Tree roots, rocks and loose stones.
  • Steep slopes and embankments.
  • Steps and changes in ground level.
  • Muddy or slippery conditions.
  • Low or overhanging branches.
  • Falling branches or trees during adverse weather.
  • Insects, stinging plants and wildlife.

Visitors should remain alert and take appropriate care when moving around the site.

Weather Conditions

Conditions can change rapidly and may affect the safety of paths and woodland areas.

Particular care should be taken during:

  • High winds.
  • Heavy rain.
  • Snow and ice.
  • Hot weather.

Visitors are advised not to enter wooded areas during severe weather and should leave the site if conditions become unsafe.

Parts of the site may be temporarily closed when necessary for public safety.

Shared Use Areas

Some routes are used by walkers, runners, cyclists and other visitors.

All users should:

  • Be aware of others.
  • Travel at an appropriate speed.
  • Take extra care at junctions, bends and busy areas.
  • Supervise children appropriately.

Children and Vulnerable Persons

Children and vulnerable persons must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times.

Parents, guardians, carers, teachers and group leaders are responsible for the welfare and supervision of those in their care.

Maintenance and Site Works

Maintenance, conservation and improvement work may take place throughout the year.

Visitors should:

  • Obey signs and barriers.
  • Keep clear of work areas.
  • Follow instructions from authorised personnel.

Temporary restrictions may be introduced to protect public safety.

Emergencies

In an emergency:

  1. Call 999 if immediate assistance is required.
  2. Request the appropriate emergency service.
  3. Provide your location as: Maes y Pant, Pant Lane, Gresford, Wrexham, LL12 8HU

If safe to do so, arrange for someone to meet emergency services at the site entrance.

Reporting Hazards

If you identify a damaged structure, fallen tree, hazardous condition or other safety concern, please report it to Maes y Pant Action Group.
